Ashfield District Council is currently considering a planning application for the former Mapplewells Inn site on Mapplewells Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The proposal is for the land to become a permanent residential caravan site for four Gypsy and Traveller families.
According to the published information, the plans include:
🏠 Residential accommodation for four families🚐 Permanent caravan pitches🏢 An amenity block🚗 Four parking spaces🌿 Use of the former pub site, which covers around 885m²
The council’s Environmental Protection team has also indicated that a noise assessment and detailed land contamination assessment would be required, particularly because the site is close to two former landfill sites.
Planning officers are currently considering the proposal, with a decision or recommendation expected by 30 September 2026.
We want to hear from local residents.
What do you think about this proposal?Do you support it?Do you have concerns about traffic, parking, noise, access or the suitability of the site?Or do you think this is an appropriate use of the land?
Please keep comments respectful and focused on the planning proposal itself.
