Tell Us What’s Happening
If you are facing a difficult situation and are unsure where to turn, Dignity Alliance may be able to provide free, practical community support.
This may involve hardship, homelessness, housing problems, difficulties with public services, anti-social behaviour or another situation that has become difficult to manage.
You do not need to know which service, procedure or organisation is responsible before contacting us.
Tell us what is happening, what you have already tried and what kind of help you may need.
We will listen, consider what practical support may be possible and help identify appropriate next steps or other organisations that may be better placed to assist.

How It Works
1. Tell Us What’s Happening
Use our support form to briefly explain your situation.
You do not need to write everything perfectly.
Tell us what the main problem is, what has happened so far and what kind of help you may need.
Please only provide information that is relevant to the support you are asking for.
2. We Look At How We May Be Able To Help
We will consider the information you provide and what practical support may be appropriate.
Depending on the situation, this may involve direct practical help, support with communication, helping organise information, signposting or connecting you with another organisation.
We may ask for additional relevant information if we need it to understand the situation properly.
We cannot accept every request for support. If another charity, service or professional is better placed to help, we will try to point you in the right direction.
3. We Help Identify Practical Next Steps
Depending on your situation, we may help you:
-
Understand what options may be available.
-
Organise the problem more clearly.
-
Understand correspondence you have received.
-
Prepare a timeline or short summary.
-
Prepare questions or draft communications.
-
Prepare for an important meeting or appointment.
-
Identify appropriate services or organisations.
-
Access practical support where this is available.
-
Find specialist help where your needs fall outside our role.
Where we refer to policies, procedures or eligibility criteria, we aim to use current information published by the relevant organisation.
Policies and procedures can change, and Dignity Alliance does not create or control another organisation’s rules.
4. You Stay In Control
You remain in control of your own situation and your own decisions.
Dignity Alliance may provide practical support, information, communication assistance or help identifying possible next steps, but you decide what action you wish to take.
Unless specifically agreed and appropriately authorised, Dignity Alliance does not act as your official representative.
Any draft correspondence prepared with our support should normally be reviewed and approved by you before it is sent.
Before You Contact Us
Do not worry if you do not have everything ready.
It may help to have:
-
Important letters or emails.
-
Dates of key events.
-
Reference or case numbers.
-
Relevant photographs or screenshots.
-
Details of organisations already contacted.
-
A short explanation of what has happened.
-
An idea of what help you may need.
If you do not have all of this, you can still contact us.
Start with what you know.
Documents And Information
Please do not send original documents.
Only send information that is relevant to the support you are requesting.
You do not need to send large amounts of documentation or sensitive personal information unless it is necessary.
If we need additional information, we can explain what may be useful.
Our aim is to understand the situation and provide appropriate support, not to collect unnecessary information.
Your Privacy
Your Information Matters
People may contact us during very difficult or personal situations.
We aim to treat everyone with dignity and handle personal information responsibly.
Please provide only the information needed for your request.
Where possible, we aim to use the minimum amount of personal information necessary to provide support.
Further information is available in our Privacy Policy.
Important: Our Role
Dignity Alliance is an independent, community-led support group.
We provide practical community support, general information, communication assistance and signposting.
We are not a law firm, solicitors, barristers, a government agency, council, housing provider, police service or official representative of any public body.
We do not provide legal advice, legal representation or reserved legal services.
We also do not provide regulated financial, medical, immigration or other professional advice unless such support is separately provided by an appropriately qualified and authorised professional.
We cannot make official decisions on behalf of councils, housing providers, government departments, police or other organisations.
We cannot guarantee the outcome of any complaint, application, request, dispute or other process.
Where specialist or professional support is required, we may help identify an appropriately qualified organisation or professional.
Need Urgent Help?
Dignity Alliance is not an emergency service.
If there is an immediate risk to someone’s safety, a medical emergency, a crime in progress or another situation requiring urgent emergency assistance, contact the appropriate emergency service directly.
Do not wait for a response from Dignity Alliance in an emergency.
Ready To Tell Us What’s Happening?
Contact Dignity Alliance
Tell us briefly what is happening and what kind of support you are looking for.
You do not need to know exactly who is responsible or what process applies before contacting us.
Our role is to listen, consider what practical help may be possible and help you identify the next step.
What Happens If We Cannot Help?
Dignity Alliance will not be able to provide support with every type of situation.
Some people may need specialist legal, medical, financial, safeguarding, emergency or other professional support that falls outside our role.
If we believe another organisation, charity, service or professional is better placed to help, we will explain that clearly and, where possible, help identify an appropriate source of support.
We will always aim to be honest about what we can and cannot do.
Our goal is not to keep every situation within Dignity Alliance. Our goal is to help people find the most appropriate next step.
Asking for Support
There Is No Shame in Asking for Help
Difficult situations can affect anyone.
You may be facing hardship, homelessness, housing problems, family difficulties, problems with public services or simply feel unsure where to turn.
You do not need to have everything perfectly organised before contacting us.
Tell us what is happening, what you have already tried and what kind of help you think you may need.
We will listen respectfully, without judgement, and treat the information you share with care and dignity.
You do not have to face a difficult situation alone.
